How soon do you take a Early Pregnancy Test?

So this will be the third month of TTC... Period is due in 4 days. How soon do you girls usually test with those early home pregnancy tests? Is it too soon?

I tested at 9DPO on a cheap test and got a BFN but tested next day at 10DPO and got a solid positive on the early results test.
