2 year old speech?

My son will be 2 on 11/6. He says maybe 5 words such as “juice” when he’s thirsty and “woof” whenever he sees a dog. At what point should we consider speech therapy?

I’m sure the pediatrician will bring it up at his two year appointment. Don’t stress too much though. Plenty of kids don’t talk a lot until three. I’d still do the speech therapy but don’t worry too much yet. There young.

My little brother only knew maybe 20 words when he was 3.5 years old, he was in speech therapy and tbh it did nothing once he went to school he suddenly knew how to talk really well! Give it time he should be fine! 😊

As soon as my daughter turned 2 she EXPLODED with vocabulary. Like a light switch turned on. If that makes you feel better!

Ours is 19m and says dada and has been in speech therapy for a couple months now, concern is no babbling at all

My toddler isn’t having conversations yet too she will be 2 in November but she will say and point out letters, say cat... and few other words but no good conversations yet!!

Honestly your pediatrician will know best but almost every post I see about this is a 2 year old not talking much and I think its more normal in boys to talk later, so many moms worry about this which I understand but with the amount of moms who say this about there kids under 4 it almost seems normal, I would get flash cards and games and maybe do phone games to help learn words even if you think it’s doing nothing! Whenever my son is playing with something or eating something I repeatedly say the name and color of what the object is. I honestly wouldn’t stress to much!

You’ll probably fill out a questionnaire at the 2 year appointment. If your pediatrician is concerned, they’ll give a referral to a speech therapist. Every kid is different. My 2 year old was speaking in complete sentences at 2, and her cousin who is 18 months older could barely string 2 words together.
