Preterm Labor

Tash • Registered Dental Hygienist, Mom of 3

So here I am 33 weeks sitting in a hospital bed in the NICU in Boston getting a steady flow of magnesium sulfate, penicillin, dilated to 4 cm, 90% effaced.

Tuesday night I made a post about having contractions 5 minutes apart that lasted a minute and a half each time, for about 4 hours.

I had a little bit of back pain, Strong contractions that made me short of breath, and a migraine from hell.

I was shocked to know i was dilated to 4cm! I was immediately transferred to a hospital with a NICU.

I’ve been given steroids to mature her lungs in case she decides she will not wait until the due date after they stop the magnesium. So The waiting game begins! The Doctors lowered my dose of magnesium and I had the worst labor contractions ever, and AGAIN active labor ensued. I just about tore the bed apart holding on for dear life. Lol

Magnesium was again increased and things have calmed down.

So it looks like my November baby might end up being an October baby! I will also not be able to work as an RDH until 38 weeks like I’d planned. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️

A few days before these symptoms I had different bowel movements, increase in thick vaginal mucus (probably my plug) and shortness of breath/ tiredness.

Don’t ignore signs and if something feels off, it probably is!!! Good luck November Mamas. I hope I can STILL join you all in November 😂🤰🏻 this hospital stay SUCKS but stay put Stubborn Baby!!! 🤞🏻you aren’t ready yet 😣😂
