Retail or Fast Food?

Question

If you had to choose between the two which would you choose? I’m 16 looking for a job and these are both pretty much all I’ll get without experience. I know they both suck but is there one you’d prefer over the other? If so, why or why not? Thank you!

You tend to have to wear the clothings/products when you work in retail (if it’s a clothing store). That ends up costing you a significant amount of money. So Id say avoid that. I had a couple friends that basically spent their whole paycheque on clothing for their ‘uniform’ as she had to wear the up to date clothes and couldn’t wear the same thing all the time. It was awful. 
So for me, I’d say fast food or any retail job wear you wear a uniform or are not required to buy the clothes/products.

Retail. I honestly don’t think I ever could work in fast food. I don’t eat fast food and the smell of it makes me sick lol. I have sort of worked a retail job and it’s alright.

Love retail. I feel like it’s a rewarding job. The hours can suck though. But it’s definitely a good one. I work at AE. We hire 16 yr olds. Try it out. I feel like it helped me a lot when it came to communication skills and customer service.

Worked both.  Lasted in retail for 8 years.  Lasted in food service 4 months.  I hate both but if I had to pick one, it would be retail.

Retail! I enjoyed my retail jobs when I was younger. This is probably not the best argument but think about the discounts!🤩 Fast food work will leaving you smelling greasy. And people can act really stupid when it comes to their food. Wherever you decide, good luck!

Retail or grocery store for sure. If you like animals my favorite job ever was working at a pet inn/ clinic and taking care of cats and dogs if that’s an option for you. I did that for two years and even having to pick up dog shit loved it way more then retail or grocery store work

I worked fast food as a teen and young adult but worked in Dairy Queen, serving and making the icecream orders, and working the register, and drive thru. I LOVED IT! One of my favorite jobs... also you may be too young to work a fryer or a grill, that's why at 17 I was put on the icecream side of the job. So it may not be too bad working fast food.

I did fast food when I was about your age and I always felt like I smelled like burgers and fries. I currently work in retail (specifically a clothing store) and I know for where I work they don’t hire any one under 18, so if you try at retail stores you might have to check if there’s an age limit. Also for retail there may be a dress code, so you may have to spend a little on clothes

I worked in a grocery store as my first job. Customers suck but it’s a good start. I think it’s a little less hectic then fast food. And you won’t come home smelling like greasy food which is a plus.
