Is it possible to get a positive ovulation test but not actually ovulate?

I have PCOS and I do have a 4 year old boy. We got pregnant after 2 years on a triple dose of chlomid. Been trying for #2 for 6 months this time with ovulation tests.

I am very irregular. Sometimes I only have 1 period a year and sometimes it’s every other month etc.

Last cycle I ovulated at CD56 according to my ovulation test and we had sex. BFN

Got a pos ovulation test yesterday and had sex.

When I asked my gyno if this is possible, she said no your body is producing the hormone for a reason.
