Toddler hat pattern?

I used to crochet when I was 12 and ive been trying to get back into it but I literally cannot find a pattern that works for me for a toddler hat. I make it and it ends up looking like a plate. I know I’m following the patterns right It just isn’t turning out... any tips or patterns you’ve used

If your hat is flattening you are probably increasing stitches on accident. I just use a basic circle pattern (magic ring with 6 hdc, Row 2: 2hdc in each stitch, Row 3: hdc 2 hdc in next around, Row 4: hdc in 2 then 2 hdc in next around) for as many rounds as it takes for the head size I need and from there I stop increasing and hdc in each stitch around until I get the hat the length I need.
