Yes it is called confirmation bias. We actively look for, give more weight to, and take into account information that supports our view/opinions/ideas and we disregard any that opposes it. Everyone does it to some extent.

I am so glad you posted this! It is something that also applied to the media - all media. We are all human beings and we are all biased. We can't switch off our bias no matter how hard we try. We can sit in another's shoes but we cannot investigate their ideas without our bias getting in the way. It's that way for us. It's that way for journalists. It's that way for all media outlets. Best we can do is read from several sources, and acknowledge the bias of each.
