Transitioning to breastfeeding?

Anna

FTM here! My baby is one week old, and has not been able to successfully latch. Right now I am pumping and feeding expressed milk with a bottle, but I’m hoping he will eventually latch and breastfeed. I have already seen two lactation consultants who have offered little help, and have just told me to keep supplementing his feedings with bottles since he isn’t eating. I really want to be able to breastfeed him, but even with a nipple shield, he just gets frustrated and screams every time I try to feed him with my breast. The lactation consultants had him see an occupational therapy to see if he has a jaw tension problem, but they couldn’t see anything wrong either.

Has anyone has success with breastfeeding after using a bottle once their baby gets older? Should I keep trying to get him to latch, or is it not something that’s in the stars for us?
