Waterbirth?

So when you have a waterbirth are you still able to get an epidural? And someone has told me you can’t actually have the baby in the water, but I’ve seen videos??

You cannot have an epidural whilst in the pool as it paralyses you from the waist down, therefore there is a risk of drowning..

My hospital won’t let you use the tub if you have an epidural or any kind of iv pain meds. They’ll let you labor in the tub until you get the epidural, but you have to stay in the bed after that.

You cant labor or birth in the tub once you receive the epidural unfortunately. Most hospitals offer tubs to labor in, but as to whether or not you can actually give birth in the tub depends on the hospital.

Different health authorities may vary in policy, but not where I live. With an epidural you have a catheter going into your back, so the chance of infection would be too risky. Unless you have a walking epidural it would also be very unsafe.

My hospital had birthing tubs but if you had an epidural no birthing tub for you, you could still do the squat bar though

Some places will only allow you to labor in the tub and get out to push, some places allow you to birth in the tub. I’m not completely positive but I would assume you would not be able to have an epidural and be in the tub.

I had a home waterbirth and you don't get pain medicine at home. not too sure about the hospital or birthing center though.

They wouldn’t let me stay in the tub if I got the epidural but I couldn’t stay in it anyway as I was low on iron, if I hadn’t been low on iron, I’d have been okay to give birth in the tub :)
