I’m afraid because my period shuts off a lot

My period likes to shut of for months at a time (sometimes 2 months sometimes 6 months). I can understand it shutting off during high stress times like during finals, but not during low stress times (like the summer months when I have no classes). Has anyone else gone through this and if so what did you do to help yourself?

P.s. this has been going on for about 2 years now it started when I was 17 and I am now 19 (I will be 20 in 6 months)
