Learned a harsh FTM lesson

I have been stockpiling breastmilk in my freezer since my LO was about 3 weeks old. He’s 12 weeks now and I have a couple hundred ounces.

Today I pulled out a bag from August and warmed it up to give him a bottle. He made a gross face and turned away from the bottle. So I smelled it...smelled like nasty ass soap. Pulled out a bag from September, thawed it out and smelled it. Same thing.

I have an excessive amount of that Lipase enzyme in my milk and now allllll my milk is soapy tasting and my baby refuses it! If I want to freeze milk in the future i have to scald it on the stove first. Cause us moms have time for that 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Lesson is this: before you go freezing all your milk, freeze a couple bags first, test them after a week or so and make sure you don’t have this problem! I was just cranking away at my stash and never once stopped to make sure i didn’t have a Lipase issue 🙄🙄🙄

Good news: the milk is perfectly fine. I can donate it and it’ll go to good use for preemies or babies needing a feeding tube who don’t have a taste preference yet. Silver lining!

Here’s to starting over .... 🙈
