how likely is it for your tongue piercing to get infections?

i really want to get my tongue pierced when i’m older (so i actually know if i want it) but every time i mention wanting one to my mother she goes on about how i’ll regret it and that it will get infected super easily. can someone tell me the facts?
also how badly (scale of 1-10) did it hurt to get the tongue pierced?

Not likely. I always had salt water to swish tho. Getting my belly button pierced hurt worse.

I’ve had my tongue piercing for 16years and it’s never gotten infected. Follow your piercer’s aftercare instructions and once it’s healed there’s little to no risk of infection. I have had it get irritated if I wear certain jewelry or if I burnt my tongue on hot food but switching jewelry or leaving it out for a day or two while the burn heals is all I had to do. It didn’t hurt that bad to pierce either. Just be aware that it does swell afterwards so it’s a bit difficult to eat for the first few days.

I always had diluted mouth wash with me and it was literally my easiest piercing when it came to it all(aftercare and all)

I’ve had mine done for about 4 years and I don’t regret it. It’s never been infected. Took a couple of months to fully heal.
