Custody in different states?

Question

I think I'm ready to file for divorce but I want to be prepared when it comes to my children. I'm almost 100% sure my husband will move back to his hometown that is in another state. What are some possible outcomes for custody? I know he wont fight for custody, he loves his kids but doesn't like taking care of them. I also am currently a SAHM though so I don't have an income.  I'm just worried about how this will all work out.

First, find a lawyer and get more concrete legs advice than we can offer. 
That being said, it is possible. Whoever doesn't get custody will travel for visitation. This can be charged against the amount of child support or alimony, depending on who gets custody and who has the higher salary/pays child support or alimony. 
I would also recommend looking for work/living arrangements/etc unless you're sure you'll be able to keep the marital home and alimony/child support (since he's obviously got the higher salary because you said you're a SAHM) will cover rent/mortgage/bills. 
Currently, my ex lives in a different state from me and our kids. He could have deducted his travel expenses from the child support, but he decided not to. Our parenting plan allows for twice-monthly visits, though he is able to visit whenever he wants because we get along and I want him to have a good relationship with our kids. 
You have to make the choices for you and your kids, and finding a good lawyer or mediator will help with that. Good luck!
