Exclusively pumping moms- how do you wean your baby from nursing?

I just want to stop my baby from asking to nurse, but perhaps keep pumping this little bit of milk I make. I’m assuming if there is some milk in there he can smell it, as opposed to if there was no milk he wouldn’t smell it and would stop asking.

Answer

I breastfed my daughter until she was 15 months old. My milk had been dried up for five months now and she still nuzzles her face in my chest and kisses my chest. I think regardless if there’s milk or not, they’ll still find comfort in your chest area. 
I did a gradual wean over three months (so I was still lactating) and I don’t think it made a huge different. With or without milk, she still finds comfort in my chest area. 
With that being said, I’d try weaning from daytime sessions first and continue to nurse before nap and bedtime (these will be the hardest to stop). You can pump when you find time or when you get engorged. I did lots of distraction and snacks and surprisingly weaning a toddler wasn’t as bad as I thought. 
When I was ready to stop night time nursing (stop nursing altogether), I put vinegar on my nipple and she only had to try it once and hated it. At this point I was pregnant again and sooo done with nursing.
