Switching to IUD

So I recently stopped taking my birth control pills about a month ago because I hated the way they started to make me feel( like really emotional and moody) and they were also doing nothing to regulate my period. So I have a doctors appt to get the Mirena IUD. Can anybody tell me about any experiences/ side effects they had with Mirena and if they liked it or not? Also please describe the procedure of getting it put in. ( I heard it's painful)
