Feeding infant ?

What age can we start introducing solids or different liquids to our babies . My son is 4M and they told me to ask his doctor if I could start introducing food to him .

In Canada, it’s not recommended until 6months as their digestive systems are still so immature. “Food before 1 is just for fun”, so no rush.

Really it’s more when you feel comfortable, and if baby is ready. Can he or she sit upon their own? Do they understand the concept of meal time, such as bottles/breast feed means food? At 4 months and up it’s okay to just start slow. Do the same food everyday for at least a week (this helps determine allergies). Also don’t do fruit till you’ve done all the veggies and meat first. Babies tend to like the sweet stuff, obviously, and will refuse veggies/meat if they know there is better options. Avoid strawberries till they are closer to a year, babies tend to be more likely to be allergic to strawberries if they are allergic to anything. Also NO honey till atleast a year old, it can cause infant botulism with is a very fatal illness.

Personally I won’t be until my babe is 6 months or older.  I’ll wait till he shows signs of readiness. Sitting up unassisted, he’s lost his tongue throat reflex, & shows interest in foods. Babies are born with an immature digestive system & they aren’t equipped to digest anything but breast milk or formula. I read somewhere that the ring between the esophagus & stomach are not fully mature allowing foods to flow backward. Over time it’ll mature and keep the contents where it belongs. It’s completely up to you though! If you think your babe is ready go for it.

According to the aap, you should wait till 6 months to introduce food. Early introduction (prior to 6 months) has been linked to gut issues in the future. I waited till my first was 6 months, and plan to do the same this time around. I figured I may as well wait, especially since food at that age isn’t where the main nutrients come from anyway.

I’m waiting until 6 months! Not for any other reason then I remember when I started my first on solids I was excited to get going but it was actually more work preparing and lots more mess!! As far as I know they don’t need solids until 6 months and with an 18 month old running around too I’m going to leave it until my lo is ready and able to do baby led weaning!! :)

You can start at 4 to 6 months.  They say the earlier the better less likely to have food allergies

Pediatrician said we can start at 4 months. We got some organic non rice cereal for her to try around the 4.5 - 5 month mark. He said we dont have to start with cereal but we want to.
