Potty training a boy

So my son is now showing interest in peeing on the potty. He loves to sit, but when I am in there he just wants to play and talk. I want to try to keep his little penis in the toilet, so I tell him to point it down and close his legs (daddy can do the standing!). Well today he was sitting there for awhile, so I decided to go to the kitchen (I can still see the bathroom) and I am there not even a minute and I hear I pee! So I walk back and he had peed! Partly in the potty, partly on the floor, and his socks were wet. Somehow his pants were spared, not sure how, luck I guess. Apparently for him to focus I have to walk away! But when I walk away pre goes everywhere, but hey he peed on the potty. Cleaning up does not take that long.
