JC Penney photography?

I’m going to sound like such a brat but I’m wondering if anyone has had their newborn’s photos taken at JC Penney? My MIL said she would love to pay to have my sons pictures taken as a gift to us new parents, but then mentioned she will be going through the store and not an actual photographer.. I’m super bummed as I have heard they turn out terrible. But would be free to me so maybe I should just shut up lol.. 😩

We did our sons newborn pictures at JC Penney. There’s nothing wrong with going and having a few pictures done.

They have people that actually know how to take pictures.  I had my daughter's first birthday pics taken there and they are fantastic. They might not be pros, but the equipment is absolutely fantastic.  Pics come out clearn, crisp, nice. They can use props and background.  And they can also edit them.
Newborn photoshoots are not hard..

I got my maternity pictures done there. I liked the way they came out. They get a lot of training and you can decide before they are bought if you like them or not. It's a lot of money she's offering to spend just for some NB photos, I'd definitely accept it

As a former professional photographer (with my own business), I'd never ever go to JC Penny for "professional" photos. I've worked in those types of studios a couple times as well and associates who work in those studios don't have to have ANY background in photography nor do they have to know how to use the camera. I highly recommend an in-home lifestyle session. They're absolutely gorgeous rather than the cookie-cutter poses and lots of silly props you get in a studio.

They’re fine. I had them do my son’s photos a few months after birth, and they turned out great. If MIL is offering, take her up on the offer. If you don’t like them, accept the gift, the spend your own money on a photographer you want.
