Should state insurance cover fertility treatments such as IVF , IUI , etc.? Why or why not?

State insurance such as Medicaid no but if you are paying for insurance than yes it should personally I see it from their business standpoint of more medical bills being pregnant and a dependent that will also need insurance

No. Because getting pregnant and having a baby isn’t detrimental to ones health.

Infertility is a disease. And I’m super sick of people trying to call it anything but. Yes it should be covered just like any other disease

I don’t like this poll, it brought out the worse side in the human race. People thinking their better than others because of what type of insurance they’re on. “I’m sorry, only I deserve to be a mother, because I’m not on state insurance”. You people disgust me. FYI, I’m on state insurance and I STILL pay a monthly premium! And I work and pay taxes!! Not every job offers medical insurance!! I’m also pretty sure every person on here who disagrees with me HASN’T experienced infertility or could care less about having a child! The cost for infertility treatments is BEYOND unnecessarily expensive! Just like everything else “medical” in this world. It’s all about money! You don’t have to be rich to be a mother! And no woman SHOULD EVER have to pay thousands of dollars to become a mother or have that chance! I’m going on 10 years of unexplained infertility and I’ll throw my opinions on ANYONE who thinks their better than me just because they’re not getting government help!

No. Insurance shouldn’t cover elective procedures. It only makes the rates go up for the rest of us.

State as in Medicaid? Definitely not. Having a child is not a medical necessity. Also I f you get pregnant while on Medicaid the child is then covered by Medicaid so that would basically be Medicaid giving away free healthcare and basically helping you have another dependent of their system.

Yes it absolutely should be. Often infertility is only one symptom of diseases. We could get better at diagnosing and things like endometriosis, PCOS, and others, that are often painful and carry other health issues with them. Right now the almost all research is being done by fertility clinics, so they don't share information with each other and the funding for the research is mostly coming from the patients themselves. I think that just like people who chose not to be parents should have both long and short term birth control covered, people who actually want to be parents should have that option. There is still stigma attached to infertile, women are seen as bitter and crazy, infertile men as seen as emasculated and less of a man, I think having infertility treated just like any other medical problem would go a long way to erase this. It wouldn't just be infertile or same sex couples who could benefit. It would also be infertile people who want to treat other chronic symptoms that go with infertility, like migraines, excruciatingly painful menstruation, metabolic and digestive disorders, hirsutism, hair loss, acne, just to name a few of the common ones. Along with learning more about these very common diseases and hormone imbalances we would likely learn about several types of cancers as well. For over 30 years it has been known that there is a positive correlation between hormone imbalances like PCOS and several types of cancers including ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer. But not really any follow up to this.

No. That’s like saying state insurance should cover cosmetic surgery.

If you are needing federal help to make ends meet and you want to bring another human into the world for the government to take care of? Yeahhh no.
