1.5 hour labor!!!!

Rebecca

I was schedule for an elective induction on the 20th of October at exactly 39 weeks. When we got to the hospital it was about 7 am. I had been having irregular contractions for 3 days prior with almost nooooo sleep. I was monitored for awhile and told I needed to wait till the afternoon because there were some emergencies with other mommies which was totally ok. At 2 PM my midwife came in and checked me. I was at 5cm 60% effaced and still super high... she gave me the option to get the cervix pill or just break my water. I chose to get the cervix pill first because I wanted him to have a chance to drop lower and not risk him laying on his cord.... so I did 2 rounds of the cervix pills... they gave me painful but still inconsistent contractions... at 2 am my midwife came back and checked me again. I was a 6 or a stretchy 7 and he had dropped a little bit. So we did a delayed rupture of my water... and not 5 minutes go by before I'm literally riding in pain crying.... after half an hour i opted to try the gas and air but the mask made me so clausterphobic I had to take it off and asked for the epidural. The anestisiologist came in really fast but I was in so much pain I was moving so much and making it so hard for him he had to do my epidural twice. The whole time I was sitting for the epidural i was absolutely in miserable pain. My pelvis and lowest part of my uterus made it feel like I was being torn in half. My midwife, nurse and husband all were gathered around me trying to calm me down and reassure me because I kept crying I couldn't do it and I wanted to be done... after I got my epidural it had been an hour since I broke my water. As soon as they layed me down back into the bed i went into transition and my stomach went numb but as soon as I got the next contraction I could feel him start to make his way out. My midwife checked me atleast 8 times within 15 minutes because I was telling her "hes coming out" "some things changing" each check I was even more dialated. The last time she checked me she said she was going to get get a drink of water and shed be back in ten minutes... the next contraction my nurse was looking me in the eye trying to get me to stop hyperventilating when all the sudden my body just started pushing. I literally clenched up my face and started baring down. She had to run out of the door and tell my midwife he was crowning. She came in and checked me once more to make sure I wasnt swelling my cervix because I kept saying "it's going to fast I dont want to swell my cervix I'll hurt him" and of course she checked and I still had a lip of it left. So she told me to push and she moved the lip out of the way and boy o boy did I scream like a crazy person. Not only was her moving my cervix out of the way awful but I was already getting the ring of fire on the canal of my vagina. I felt like I was being split.

Remember at this point id only had my epidural maybe 15 minutes so only my stomach was numb.

My midwife suited up really quick and started to yell at me "HEY! CALM DOWN! You have to focus so we can get him here safe" and honestly I'm glad she yelled at me. I was freaking out scaring myself. So the next contraction I pushed 3 times and his head came out. The last push his shoulders came out and my husband got to deliver him. It was so much more painful than our first I was sure I was torn to all hell but not a single stitch!!!

He was born at 3:21 am at 7lbs 5oz 20in

We love you Sage
