As I was speaking to my younger cousin today, she let me know there was a boy she was interested in going to prom with, but she couldn’t because he was black. She told me that her mother told her absolutely not when she came home excited about her prom date.

It absolutely broke my heart because I remember being told this same thing growing up and I didn’t understand why.

Sometimes I think we are moving forward, sometimes not so much.
