Even though my family is very superstitious, I dont personally think it's bad luck. My mom had a fit when my job threw me a shower at 24weeks. Broke out her rosary and started praying. But that's just us, lol. Do what makes you happy or what works for you.

I ended up buying a bunch of things that I wanted to stock pile up on. I knew that if it didn’t work out, I could always donate it to another mama in need!

Nope, i don't believe that buying things can affect the outcome of a baby in the womb.
