Should I throw my own shower?

Question

So I’m from San Francisco but I’ve lived in new Orleans for 5 years. One of our friends here offered to throw me a shower but she had a death in the family and has been in California a lot herself. 
My sister is throwing me a sip and see back home after the baby is born. Is it lame if I had a sprinkle here? 
I bought a new home last December and I’ve yet to have  people over.

I’m throwing myself a shower since many of my friends have huge life events they’re planning, I couldn’t ask for them to plan that too so I’m just taking charge! No shame in that, I’m just telling people “gifts welcome but not necessary” so no one thinks I’m only throwing it to get gifts.

Honestly, when I go to a shower I never think about who is giving it. You know? I say go for it!

Go for it! My husband and I are throwing a coed “baby-q” for ourselves. We don’t have family anywhere near us, and I’m looking at it more so as a chance to get together with friends and have some fun before the holiday craziness and baby comes!

I wish I threw my own shower with my first! I let my partner and a friend plan it and it was such a fail. They didn't invite any of my family or friends, just my partners friends and family, and even then only a few turned up. They forgot to organise food so the day of I had to make food for it so with such late notice it was crap. My friend organised alright games though.

Update. They planned a secret shower and it came out AMAZING! I mean absolutely perfect. I haven’t gotten the official photographs but these are some from phones.

I’d talk to your friend who offered first and make sure she’s ok with it. She may still be planning something.
