I second trying the football hold. As kinda scary as it sounds, football hold really gives you the ability to hold her neck/head and really shove that nipple in there. Squeeze your areola a little back from the nipple to flatten a little (think like when you squish a tall sandwich down to fit it in your mouth), and wait for baby to get a big, open mouth and get that nipple in as far as you can. If little one doesn’t latch correctly, break the seal and try again.

Nipple shields have been working for me, TMI but my nipples are pretty stubby and they don’t get very long so the nipple shields help him get what he needs. If I don’t use it he just screams and screams.

I had this same issue for what felt like forever with my daughter. The lactation consultant suggest the football hold and I (stupidly) waited so long to try it because I thought it seemed ridiculous! Well guess how silly I felt when it offered almost instant relief!! It took a little while for my nipples to heal so that breastfeeding wasn’t painful anymore, but it slowly got better and I am SO glad we stuck with it

Have you met with a lactation consultant? That helped me with my daughter tremendously. Also trying different positions and manipulating my nipple a bit to REALLY point upwards toward her nose right before she latched help because she has a high palate. In the beginning the football hold was best for us but recently the cross cradle has been working better. Sometimes have to improvise as they grow too.
