i heard a mother calling her daughter Ripley at the park the other day, she was about 6 or 7 years old. the name suited her very well and none of the other kids picked on her. go for it!

It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks but if both of you don't 100% like it then it should go in the maybe pile. Me and my SO had two different ideas on what a cute girl name was, he either picked stripper names or old lady names. We then found the perfect name for her that we both loved.

I like it better than the majority of surname names on girls. But I don't tend to like surname names on girls, so my choice would still be no.
More importantly though, you have to like whatever name you guys chose. If you decide you don't like it enough, then he needs to let it go and explore other options with you. Lots of parents don't get their first pick, because they recognize that their partner's opinion matters too.
