But of a stupid question, but I was wondering what they do when you go to see them and what the check for? Also, how different is it from going to get checked by just peeing in a cup?

Well if your getting a Pap smear it test for cervical cancer, weird spots, sexually transmitted infections, yeast and bactierial infections, bladder infections. It’s more stress thinking about it than it is getting it done. It’s over just as soon as it starts they just run 2 or 3long q-tip looking things to collect fluid around your cervix. This is important because these are things that won’t come up in your urine. It can be uncomfortable to lay back with your legs wide open but just remember their professionals. Another tip... they do this all day all week all year. They’ve seen everything, and really there not there to look or judge, just do their expert job, as comfortably as they can. So try not to worry about feeling exposed or what they’ll think. It honestly doesn’t matter. They’re only focused on health & wellbeing.

They’ll probably use a device called a speculum. Don’t google it! But it’s kind of like small plastic tongs designed to fit in your vagina. They’ll put lube on it, slide it gently in and it kind of props your tunnel open while they swan you - so to speak. Most gynaecologists do the procedure quickly and easily.
It will only be painful if there’s a serious infection, or more likely if you’re anxious the muscles there get tense and clam up, so to speak. In the past I’ve warned my doctor and asked for the smaller sized speculum. But in recent years I’ve had a good gynaecologist and relaxed.
The other commentor was right, worrying beforehand is more than the procedure itself!
