Just seen this on BBC news, seems there are a few articles on this case but today is the first I've heard of it - sorry if its been posted previously. He was sentenced today for murdering his toddler son. Given police found heroin, cocaine and cannabis at this man's house, I'm surprised anyone thought it would be a good idea to let a child in there!

Do you think police should have been more involved? Should agencies have investigated further before allowing contact? Should the mother have done something first, or was she helpless or oblivious?

A man has been found guilty of murdering his two-year-old son.

Raphael Kennedy, 31, attacked Dylan Tiffin-Brown at his flat in Arthur Street, Northampton, on 15 December. He then waited more than an hour to call an ambulance.

Kennedy denied the charge, claiming someone else had injured Dylan while he was out dealing drugs.

The jury took six hours to return the unanimous verdict following a three-week trial at Northampton Crown Court.

During the trial, the court heard that Dylan had five different drugs in his system when he died, including cocaine and heroin.

He also had multiple fractures, lacerations to his liver and substantial abdominal injuries that would have left him in significant pain.

Kennedy had only known his son for 10 weeks before he beat him "with such ferocity" that he caused "devastating internal haemorrhaging of major organs".

Police had raided Kennedy's flat on 18 October - two month's before Dylan's murder - and found heroin, cocaine and cannabis as well as a phone, scales and packaging used for drug dealing.

A serious case review by the Northamptonshire Safeguarding Children's board about Dylan's death is expected to be published next month.
