Stay in same area?

Hubby just started working in IT for a state agency and I am preparing to test for a position with a different state agency (as a peace officer). I am currently working in security for a state agency (the one my husband works for) and we would be able to afford the mortgage on a condo not far from where we currently live in California. The only problem with California is that I absolutely hate the state in general and would love to live in a different state like Texas. My husband doesn't want to move because he heard that Californians get treated badly in Texas. I have friends that moved from California to Texas and don't get treated badly.
