Do you lose connection and closeness with your SO after having a child?

Question

My husband and I are ready to start a family but I'm just afraid that we will lose our strong bond that we have. We are so happy together and I don't want that to change!

I fell in love with my husband all over again seeing how amazing he is with our children makes me love and appreciate him so much more! We still cuddle and go on dates we maintain our relationship so that our children see what love is suppose to look like! 
I mean I still get butterflies when he walks in the room and just touches my arm! Or smiles and winks at me from across the room! He's my best friend! 
I think one of the things that was hard for me was that he still loves me and wants me after gaining weight but he does and he reassures me everyday!

I think thus varies from couple to couple. There's no one size fits all answer. We haven't lost any closeness, if anything, it's brought us closer and we've become better, happier partners because of our son. Our relationship has changed and even improved, we don't get to go out and do the crazy things that we used to do so much anymore, but those activities have been replaced with teaching our son, watching him grow, taking him to the park, on hikes and walks and bonding over all the amazing changes that are happening. Our sex life is better than ever and we still get to go out on dinner dates alone... Occasionally.

Yes, having a baby changed our relationship, but it was a positive change. My husband has always wanted to be a dad (since he was 10 and his baby brother came along) and it seems like doing so has matured him and forced him to prioritize the important things. We bought a house, he got an awesome new job with no out of town work and he quit smoking.

Having kids is an enormous shock to the system but the adjustment has been good for us. We were just marveling last night at how things have changed. We can't jump in the car at 2 am and drive up mountains to watch the storms, we don't get to go to concerts or out to eat anytime we want. Our freedom has been restricted, yes, but it's totally worth it.

It varies from couple to couple.  For me and my husband  everything we do revolves around our daughter we get no breaks, we have no family nearby, we have no date nights, we have no alone time. It's harder for us to keep connected sometimes. But we make it work.

Our alone time was replaced with family time and we love watching our daughter grow and learn.
