Sometimes we have weeks where we both travel so we don't see each other. Sex is about intimacy and connection with your lover and masturbation is something else. We long for each other and that is difficult. We've tried creative ways to have fun with technology and text and video. My concern is that solo masturbation can feed porn addiction and vice versa.  My husband has a really high drive and my only concern is that he abstain from pornography if he masturbates ( because I view pornography as sexual exploitation and cheating and I don't want it affecting our relationship or him getting addicted) We've made some positive steps with help from "fight the new drug". I do feel cheated  if he masturbates when we have had an argument instead of waiting until we have resolved and then having make up sex. I've also shared these feelings with him. And he has made sincere efforts to protect our relationship. ☺

It's something men have to do.  Most do so on instinct.  Studies show that men masturbate at least once a day on average. Men who don't greatly increase their risk of prostate cancer.  It's not always intimate /enjoyable for them so much as it's something that they just have to do for maintenance.  We can't control a man's masturbation any  more than they can control our menstrual cycles. Menstrual cycles are our instinctive maintenance.  Men that don't give themselves maintenance are more apt to have "wet dreams"  where their body will release the build up against their will while they sleep.  On average, men get 4-5 erections during their normal sleep cycle (regardless of what they're dreaming about). Men get erections, and can ejaculate, even in death (I'm serious! Look it up)! It's just their nature.
