Nipt testing?

How early did you have it?
Did your insurance cover all or part of it?
Did you just go get it done or did your doctor order it?
Can someone explain how this works to me?

There are two different tests, you pick which one you want. I had my appointment for this yesterday. The first one tests for common abnormalities in the chromosomes and also will tell you the gender. This is covered by insurance.
 The second test is more in depth and tests for all of that, as well as some rare disorders. Your insurance will most likely reject this test because there isn’t a reason for the in depth testing. If you opt to just do the first test and something comes back positive on the first test then they may cover the more in depth one, but there has to be a reason to get it in the first place. The woman explained it to me that the first test is basically looking at the strand of DNA which is like a string of pearls and it looks at the strand as a whole. The more in depth testing looks at each pearl on that strand individually. Hope this helps! 
Also, during the ultrasound they look for two legs and arms, and if they are moving around at all. They look for the size of everything to make sure the baby is growing properly. They look at your amniotic fluid to make sure the levels are where they should be. They look for a nose bone in the baby, because 70% of babies with Down syndrome you won’t be able to find a nose bone in the ultrasound. They test for more but this is just what I could remember off the top of my head. Good luck!

My insurance covered it at, at 10 weeks, at the doctors office, I’m 29. If insurance refused to cover it, the doctor had a fixed rate of $300, which is worth it to me.

My doctor ordered it. My insurance didn’t cover it. They explained the costs before doing the test so I could make a financial decision. The test cost $349 through the Prelude company.

10 weeks is the earliest my midwives will do it - I had my draw with my daughter at 12 weeks due to scheduling conflicts with work. This time I’m getting the draw at 11 weeks 1 day (Monday! So excited!)
My insurance covered part of it. We got the panorama and the horizon carrier screen by Natera and I think we ended up being about $500 out of pocket, but fortunately we had plenty in our FSA to cover it so it was no big deal. We planned to get pregnant again so I made sure we put aside enough to cover it again. Some insurances cover more than others. Some tests are also covered more fully than others. Your dr/midwife might have more info. 
My midwives ordered the test, took the blood, and sent it to the lab for analysis.

I did it at 10 weeks. Needed a requisition form from my dr which I took to the lab for the blood draw. Insurance didn’t cover it so I paid out of pocket

I’m 35, so my insurance paid for it. Got mine done at 10+6, though my midwife said I could go anytime after 9 weeks.

My doctor said I would need to be at least 12 weeks for it. They need to order it. I also have to call the insurance and make sure they cover it because someone told me it’s like $5,000. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I believe they can do it as early as 10 weeks, but usually wait until around 12, to be sure results come in clearly. I also think if you are over 35 insurance pays for it, otherwise you may have to pay.
