Children are shaped by their environment. However, I was raised by a teenage mom and no father, then my mom became a drug addict. I have a normal life aside from trust issues. I’ve never tried drugs and definitely wasn’t a teen mom. I saw how hard my mom struggled and learned from the choices she made. I didn’t follow in her footsteps, I learned from them.

I think this is very dependent on the person. 
My biological father is a pedophile and when I was younger my mother was a drug addict. 
My husbands mother was a drug addict/dealer. He grew up around sketchy people, and had his things stolen and traded for drugs all the time.
I’ve never once thought about hurting a child, and have only smoked pot a few times (when I was a teen). My husband has never even touched pot, and has always worked hard to everything he owns.
My husband sister however is a drug addict, theft, is married to a felon and can’t keep custody of her kids.
