Hand sized blood clot after period ended

So I thought I was officially done with my period on cycle day 9 (no pad or tampon), but on day 10 I was awakened by blood streaming out in bed and when I got to the toilet a hand-sized clot came out. Has this ever happened to anyone? I took a pregnancy test to see if it was a miscarriage but it was negative...
