Approximately how much money do you spend a month on ONE newborn?

I'm completely clueless on how much a child cost in their first couple of years. My sister said almost everything gets handed to her from family and only has to pay for diapers, not formula because she breastfeeds. I would like a general idea on the cost of a baby in its first couple years. Thanks!

With my daughter we had a good diapers and wipes before she was born from our baby shower and me randomly purchasing them..we got WIC which covered her formula.  So I would say for the first 2-3 months of her life I spent $0 a month after that stock ran out I would say about $40 or so a month

Insurance for use was $120 to add our son...we set aside $200 every month into his bank account for college...diapers were one box a month and a box of wipes every three totaling $50 a month...toiletries are replenished every few months and that's around $15 a month ....the extra life insurance plan we took out was $20 extra...clothing was never bad but just buying winter stuff averages at least $10 a month split throughout the year...I am out $478 a week from cutting my hours at work to stay home with my son (daycare in my city was $499 a week for a newborn)...my son was EBF until we introduced solids at 6 months (I made everything) and then cows milk at a year. So my son cost at least $415 a month...and  $2331 if you include the cost it took us to arrange daycare.

i (hopefully) won't be spending any money on my baby for a while because i'll be breastfeeding and using cloth diapers. all her clothes/bath essentials/pacis/toys are bought and once i get my pump and the rest of my fluff stash, i hopefully won't need anything else for a while.

It really depends on the baby and what their needs are. Some require more than others. I'd say $200-$400 a month, on an average. If your cloth diapering and breast feeding, then it's obviously going to be much cheaper than that. I remember spending $150 a month on just formula.

Baby hasn't come yet, but plan is to stockpile wipes diapers and anything else over the next 7 months. I have a huge family and lots of really supportive friends so whatever doesn't come as gifts or hand me downs I'll get at thrift stores.

I also want to make my own baby food that will save some costs as well. So all I'll have to pay for when baby comes for a while is doctor visits. And gifts.

It depends, if you breastfeed and use cloth diapers it's less expensive. If your child is born with health problems that will affect cost too.

Stock pile...there are coupons out there and if it's baby number one hopefully a baby shower will help. Clothes that are handmedowns are great since they aren't worn out generally since little ones don't stay little. As children get older they get expensive.

It really depends.  Brands you get, what is received and how much received at a baby shower.  Whether you breastfeed or formula, WIC or self buying.
