Low progesterone?!

Does anyone that has an irregular period have any advice for low progesterone issues. I stopped birth control and getting “normal” again has taken months. It took 7 weeks for me to have a period and I am two weeks past my cycle as of today. My doctor has me on progesterone because apparently it forces the body to start a period. I have taken it for 6 days and nothing has happened. And I have already taken two pregnancy tests and both are negative???? I’m so confused what to do.
