Reco’s for keeping baby warm in car?

I’m trying to figure out how to dress my 7 month old in the car. Winters here get down to 30-10 deg F. Warming up the car beforehand isn’t really an option. 
I have a car seat cover that I’m planning on using. Can babies wear pram suits in the car too?

The “rule” is: No puffy coats in the car seat. Also nothing in the car seat that didn’t come with it (after market products). This includes the car seat covers that go between baby and car seat. 
However you can safely use a shower cap style car seat cover (goes over the entire car seat).  They have a face flap for warmth although be careful not to really use that except for short bursts because carbon monoxide can build up in there quick. 
We used a fleece jacket with a blanket over baby and then the shower cap style car seat cover.

Be extremely careful about covering the seat especially for longer periods than fro:the house to the car. It traps heat and co2, restrict airflow and you can set baby’s head if they fell asleep in the car. Co2 sinks so having a hole in the top doesn’t really help.

Google car seat poncho, ours worked great last winter, it allows some breathabikity, keeps little one warm, and doesn’t go under the straps, also easy to just pull off if the car gets warm.

I have a friend who got her kid a car seat poncho off Etsy. They were a tad pricey for me last winter but I’ll probably look at them again. Last winter I kept blankets in the car to put over my son when we got in. Problem this year is he’s decided he doesn’t like blankets 🙄

No to pram suits or anything puffy between baby and the straps. DS was born in feb in Canada. It was coooooold. We had a car seat cover that had slits for the straps to go through and then zipped up over his lap with a pocket for his head to peep out. We usually put a blanket over that too plus a hat on him
