Breastfeeding struggles with cesarean baby?

Question

I’m currently 38 weeks 6 days. FTM and dr is concerned I’m going to end up having a c section due to baby’s size (8.11 last week) and I have not dilated or dropped yet. I know both of those are questionable being that US is notoriously wrong and I could dilate 10cm in just a few hrs. But the longer we wait, the bigger he gets.😰
If I do end up having a c section, what are some helpful tips to start my breastfeeding journey? I’ve read where milk can take longer to come in due to the drugs. I’m trying to just have spinal medication for the surgery so I won’t be completely out of it and be able to nurse him ASAP.

Don’t trust ultrasounds for weight. They can be accurate. But aren’t always. Both of my babies measured “so big!” My first they told me was def over 9 lbs. - 2 days before she was born. She was 7 lbs 12 oz. 🙄. Same with my son. Measured big and weeks ahead. And he was born just 3 oz more than my daughter. 
While they can be right, don’t let them push an unnecessary c section on you. (But even if you do have one it doesn’t make you any less of a mom and it shouldn’t have any impact on breastfeeding)

I was induced due to baby's size and they were wrong. He was smaller than they thought. I had an emergency c-section and had a brilliant start to breastfeeding. He latched on straight away. My boy is 8 months and I still breastfeed him. We were lucky as having a c-section can make feeding harder. The best bit of advice though, is to get baby to latch on asap after delivery. I'm in England and here they always want to try and get baby to latch  on in the first hour. What ever happens, just take if easy. It does get a lot easier over time though.

My milk came in on day 5-6 but my daughter was fine with just the colostrum I was making, we never had to supplement. I had an epidural and then general anesthesia as soon as they pulled my daughter out because of some complications. My only advice is to nurse on demand on look up cluster feeding so you know what to expect and don’t think your baby is constantly attached to your breasts because of a supply issue.

My doctor said eating oatmeal helps with milk flow.  It can be anything with oatmeal in it.  Good luck.  I didn't have any issues producing milk with my last baby and he was born by c-section.

So my baby was 8 lb 10 oz at birth. I was in labor for 30 h, then c section. His head circumference was 99th percentile. 
He’s 9 months now and I still am breastfeeding him. 
I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to. I just kept him at the breast. First week was really hard bc he almost ate my nipples off. After that it was fine. He regained his birth weight within the first week. My milk came in on day 3 I think. I had an epidural for the c section BTW.

The estimation was off by 1-1.5kg for my baby. 
If you really don't want a scheduled c-section, you don't have to do it. It's your right to choose what happens to your body. You can always try wait for a natural vaginal birth, or you could schedule an induction. There is always the potential in any birth that you may end up needing a cesarean. 
If your doctor is pushing for a scheduled cesarean, you are in your rights to ask him to explain why its medically necessary.
If you already have an epidural in for labour, they can use that line for the anaesthetic for an emergency cesarean, so hopefully they wouldn't need to give you a general anaesthetic. 
The best way to have your milk come in its to have the baby feeding at the breast. The direct nipple simulation, and skin to skin contact will help your letdown. And the more often you feed and drain the breast, you will stimulate milk production.

I had a c section as my stubborn little boy was breech. I had the spinal and epidural of course and also took pain medication after ( I believe they gave me Percocet). My milk did take longer to come in, probably wasn’t in until day 5 or 6. My son had some latching issues in the beginning and had to be supplemented one night in the hospital as he lost too much weight. After that little bit of supplementation he latched on and has been a champ at breastfeeding ever since. We just hit the 6 month mark and are going strong. Utilize the resources your hospital has to help and just hang in there. It’s tough in the beginning but it gets better and is so worth it 😊

Ask to latch as soon as you are in recovery. Many hospitals allow skin to skin while you are still being stitched up. I did that with my daughter and had no issues breastfeeding. She latched right away and camped there for 45 minutes.

I had a scheduled c-section because my baby was large and breech...she was 10lbs 5oz! So my ultrasound was correct (although I’ve heard of them being incorrect, as well). Since it was a scheduled c-section, I did have a birth plan in place....and it didn’t work out! But just try to relax and roll with the punches. In regards to breastfeeding, I did it right away, although she latched incorrectly on my left breast and the pain was unbearable, so I only used the right breast for awhile. I did end up supplementing, due to baby’s size, but you have to do what’s best for you. I am also a FTM and have never had any major surgery whatsoever, so I didn’t know what to expect. It wasn’t nearly as bad or as scary as I thought it would be. You’ve got this! You’re going to do great! ❤️👍🏻💪🏻
