Copper IUD and period

Who has a copper IUD? I got mine 3 months pp when I hadn’t had a real period yet. Fast forward to 5 months pp and I have the HEAVIEST period I’ve ever had in my life. We’re talking soaking through a super tampon and a pad every 2 hours.

I don’t know if this is a side affect of the IUD or the lack of period. I’m assuming some combination of both, but I would like to know your experience with the copper because if every month is like this perhaps I should switch.
