Zoloft during pregnancy?? Anyone ?

I had my 16 weeks appointment today and I explained to my Dr that I had depression and anxiety before getting pregnant and it hasn’t passed away since becoming pregnant. I actually cried talking about it , my anxiety has been the worst so far above the depression but of course they go hand and hand . My concern was more for post partum . Any way she went ahead a prescribed me Zoloft and said it would be safe during the 2nd trimester. I can’t help but feel afraid of taking medication especially being pregnant. Am I over thinking it? Anyone had relief from it , this is my first time taking any antidepressant.

Neuroscientist here. Be aware that they take weeks to work and that it stays in your system for awhile. Doesn’t work for everyone. If benefit outweighs the risk, you should take it. If it works for you, that is awesome!!!! Depression is serious. I lost a friend to PP depression right after the birth of her third child. She had gone off her meds...”for the baby” and now isn’t around to watch her children grow. My cousin’s wife was lost a similar way. She went off her bipolar meds...for the baby... and now her child will never know her. Please stay on top of your mental health! 
It’s always about weighing the risk. I have adult ADHD, yes the hyperactive form. I stopped taking my meds for four weeks and could not function like a normal person. My docs had me go back on (half-dose) so I wouldn’t lose my job/insurance. The main risk for my baby is low birthweight. I’m fortunate that my baby is developing beautifully and ahead (already had the anatomy scan). Even if she were small, I’d still take my meds. My state of mind has to be in a good place because a mother’s stress hormones have worse effects on baby. Guess what, I also have a daily Red Bull, but never come close to my caffeine limit . 👍🏻 babies are resilient.

I take Zoloft 100mg even before I got pregnant. I tried to decrease the dose but my anxiety got worse so I’ve just stayed at the same dose. I don’t feel bad for taking it my mental health is important since I have 3 other kids and pregnancy can be hard mentally with all the hormones:)

I take Buspirone for anxiety. My doctor prescribed it while we were trying. I am so glad I am taking it because I can’t imagine how crazy my anxiety would be while being pregnant. I say that if your doctor said it is okay to take, take it. Mental health is so important. ❤️❤️

Before I became pregnant I was on 200 mg of Zoloft. I tried to go off it slowly and I was just a reck so my gyno at the time prescribed 50 mg and have been on it even before I became pregnant my ob says he would rather I be on it than be depressed and anxious. I feel great on this lower dose.

I take celexa for anxiety and depression and have for 10 years. I was able to be off it entirely for my first pregnancy but was put back on it during this pregnancy at 7 weeks because I hit rock bottom. Not being on it is not an option for me as a mother.

It’s safe! I just started it at 16 weeks too. My midwife told me that if you’re already having anxiety/depression while pregnant your risk for postpartum depression is very very high and it’s important to have Zoloft in my system before I deliver for the safety of me and my baby. Mental health is so important. Don’t feel guilty.
