How/When did you tell your employer about being pregnant?

I work at a daycare center and for some reason i can’t get the nerve to tell my work about being pregnant. I just started there about a month ago so I haven’t formed close relationships with anyone. I don’t know if I feel comfortable flat out telling them I’m pregnant just yet. I haven’t been to the doctors to confirm yet which I wanna do before I tell them. I plan on going to the doctors on Friday which idk how my work will react to having a doctors appointment because they get grouchy/pissy when things are very inconvenient for them. Any advice or suggestion what to do?

What room do you work in? Depending on the age range, depends on when you should tell them. If you’re working with the babies/toddlers and will be lifting a lot, I’d tell them ahead of time that way they know. Otherwise if you’re with older kids I’d probably wait until at least the 2nd trimester.

I told my boss at 5 weeks only because i was doing a very physical job and had to be switched to a different department. If that wasn’t the case i probably would have waited until 12 or 13 weeks

I just started dropping hints that I wasn’t feeling well so when I had to take some time off for my doctors appt they weren’t that surprised. And then when I got my official your pregnant results from my doctor I told my boss. I work in a private dentist office though and have a close working relationship with my boss. I’d say wait until the second trimester just to give yourself sometime to get settled into the new job and it’s early enough that they wouldn’t suspect you of hiding it from them. Some people just don’t find out until that point.

So, because there is some heavy lifting at my job, I let them know right away. 3 weeks later I was terminated (the GM hired her husband and wanted him to have my job and hours). In September, the owners opened a new store closer to my home. I offered to come back under strict boundaries: 1) I’m not working with or for that wench again 2) I need these days off for my wedding 3) I’m not running deliveries once snow falls 4) when I’m ready to go for maternity leave, I’m going. I don’t expect to be paid for it, I don’t expect you to hold my job. 5) I’m not working more than 30 hour weeks. 
Right before my old gm fired me, they’d given me a raise so they knew my worth, appreciated my work ethic and because I was such a hard worker, were willing to work around all my craziness 🤪. I respect the hell out of these owners and my new GM has been absolutely amazeballs. Be open. Be honest.
