How many diapers do we actually need?

I know we will go through a ton if diapers, I have 100 screenshots of charts on how many of each size is an average etc. However just how many do we need to buy? I know we’re going to try out different brands until we find what’s best for us and we will get a ton for our baby shower. I don’t want to have boxes on boxes of a brand that we just can’t use do to it being ill fitting or irritating his skin. Is it better to just buy up a few until we find what we like or should we go ahead and stock up?

Looking back at my glow diaper charts, we used 8-10 diapers on an average day until he was about 6 months (1440-1800 diapers in the first 6 months of his life legitimately, not including blowout days.)
Then it started to be 6-8 diapers on a normal day until about 12 months (1080-1440 diapers from 6-12mo). 
From then until now at 16mo it's about 5-6 a day. (900-1080 diapers).

Answer

I used like 5 newborn diapers from the hospital and then she was right to size ones. I think we had 5 boxes of size one, three of size two and four of size 3. She’s 15 months old and we are on a second box of size 4s.
