Anyone with hypothyroidism in pregnancy?

My ob said my thyroid levels were 3.5 and he wanted it down to 2.5. So he raised my syntrhoid to 75mg instead of 50. However I’m slightly confused. Don’t you have to lower the synthroid to get your level down? Why would he raise it?

When your TSH is higher that means something isn’t going right and your body is trying to stimulate more production of the hormone used by the thyroid. So by introducing levothyroxine or synthroid you are now putting in those hormones so your body will stop trying to stimulate it. TL;DR high TSH means low functioning thyroid which means higher dose of meds.

Ugh yea, but i had it before. It's genetic and I got my thyroid problems from BOTH my parents, I'm on levothyroxine.... have blood tests this Friday along with first prenatal visit

I have the same issue. Just went up to 88 from 75 because my TSH came down to 2.5, but inexplicably went back up to 3.5. Last time I was checked, I was down to 1.6. So yes - high dose means lower TSH levels!

Higher dose = lower levels!
Lower TSH = Lower free t4, super important to pregnancy. 
We require more thyroid hormone while pregnant so expect to keep going higher and higher until baby comes!
I'm on 175 right now!

My doctor upped my meds to 75 from 50 too. It’s the opposite, so upping your meds will lower your TSH.
