Abnormal discharge? (Potential TMI)

Vidya

Hi!

Tl;dr: I’m having a weird bloody discharge in the middle of my cycle, and am trying to figure out whether I should be worried.

Relevant info: I have PCOS, and very irregular, often heavy cycles I’m trying to figure out. I was on birth control (pill) for about 16-17 years (to treat the symptoms of my PCOS), and got off in February, when my husband and I decided to start TTC. Since then, I had two normal cycles (about 28-35 days long, an 80-day cycle (followed by the worst first day of a period I’ve had in years), a 38-day cycle, and a 44-day cycle, and am on the 19th day of the one after that.

Somewhere in the middle of the 80 day cycle (during which I took multiple pregnancy tests, all of which came out negative), I talked to my doctor about this, to see if I needed to be tested for anything. She recommended taking ovulation tests to see if I was ovulating.

So I’ve been doing that - I’m using two different tests - Pregmate test strips and Clearblue Advanced digital tests (at first, was just doing the pregmate ones, and using the Clearblue to confirm, but just started using them both when I tried using the CB to confirm, and never got a “peak” result (just several “high”s, and think I might have missed it (this was during the 38-day cycle). The next one, I actually got a “peak” result with the Clearblue after one “high” which corresponded with a dark result on the Pregmate the next day. This cycle, I’ve had 4-5 “high”s, with no peak yet, the Pregmate tests have been ALL over the place, and late this afternoon, I saw what looked like a fairly thick, bloody discharge in my underwear, like the consistency of lotion. At first I thought it was just really heavy spotting, but it’s continued through the evening. It feels like a light day on my period.

I’ve logged it in my notes, and plan to write my doctor about it again (was wanting to give it a few cycles to update her, and I’m thinking it’s time). I’m not sure whether I should be worried or not. I’ve heard that spotting could also be a sign of ovulation. Not sure if this is too heavy for that or what.

Ideas? Thoughts?
