Do you check the expiration dates on every item you plan to purchase?

I ask this as I have had many problems at one of the grocery stores near me. I brought 12 blocks of cheese to the front desk one time because I was looking for a block of Monterey Jack and every single one on the shelf was expired and so were 3 other blocks of my second choice of cheese. I told my friend about it and now she makes sure her husband or son checks her dates because it was never a thought to her that she needed to check the dates at a grocery store. It got me thinking about it. I never checked dates until I started working at a grocery store and it doesn't matter where I shop, or what I'm buying, I religiously check dates now.
