Stray pets 🐶🐱

What do you do when you are a stray animal? Leave it? Pick it up and try to find owner? Call animal control? Bring it to the nearest shelter?

I'm at work and about two hrs ago this adorable yellow lab came strolling by, so of course I rushed out to pet it 🤣. He had a collar on but no tags. So I texted my boss, she had me close up for a bit and go behind our building to the homes around there and see if they knew anything. No one did. So I brought him back and tied him up gave him a blanket and water and called animal control. We're located off a busy main highway, so I just really didn't want him to get hurt. I immediately posted him to multiple fb lost pet pages and other local site groups I'm in. Well animal control eventually came and got him.

Then like 35 mins later this lady comes in asking about him, and I let her know that animal control had already come by. She wasn't too happy 😬😫.

Apparently she works a few buildings over and always brings her dog, she said the people at a jiffy lube right by us often play with him and he visits them. She said he had tags so why didn't I call. I let her know that he only had a collar no tags or of course I would have. I walked him right by jiffy lube when I went to the neighborhood to ask around and they didn't say anything. I apologized profusely and let her know

I just didn't want him to get hurt, or if he had been lost for while, or whatever, I just didn't know.

I feel bad that she had to make a trip to go get him, but at the same time I was only concerned about the dog 😩.

I don't call for cats, I usually just put food out for them. But I always attempt to approach a dog to check for tags, then I post them, and call animal control or bring them to the shelter if I'm able to. Always figured that was the right thing to do 🤷🏽‍♀️
