My SO and I met through an online dating site. We talked on the phone, texted and FaceTime’d for a few months before meeting. 2 years later and we are expecting our first this December.
I feel it’s more common in today’s network with the numerous amount of social media sites present . It isn’t a weird thing. If you’re the type of person who’s interested in getting to know someone and experience where they are emotionally BEFORE meeting, it’s a good gateway. Another pro I found is that communicating before without physically meeting, strengthened my ability to be patient and helped produce different ways of communicating (which I’m big on).

It’s not safe these days but it’s how today’s world works now. You can’t possibly expect your soulmate to live two doors down from you. Venturing out is always good.

Met my husband on tinder. We went on 1 date and then he flew out of town for a month. We talked and talked and soon as he officially moved here we started everything for real. Been together for 3.5 years, married for almost a year, have a 1 year old and pregnant with #2! We are just as in love as we were day 1.

I've had three experiences with this: 
1st: 16 year relationship, we were both teenagers. 
2nd: Basically cat-fished, moved out of state to be with him, love bombed and then gaslighted me, guy grossly misrepresented himself and lied about so much BIG stuff, was lazy etc. My uncle ran a bank ground check on him. Medical bills came up, but ex had disclosed that. Serious mental health issues and general health issues because he wouldn't take care of himself. 
3rd: Total narcissist, should have run a back ground and credit check on the guy (felony stalking, breaking and entering, domestic violence, unpaid tickets, suspended license, couldn't open a checking account, two years behind on child support), lied & manipulated, used me financially so he could stay home and game all day while I worked 12 hour days. 
So, some advice: 
•Take things slow. Insecure men or liars keeping up an act will try to "lock things down" as fast as they can. Any red flags you see should be weighed accordingly, if there is not a damn good reason for that red flag, get out. 
•Run a back ground check!! Criminal and financial! It's worth the money and it's worth protecting yourself! I never would have pegged the last guy to be such a POS, and I really regret not covering my ass. These guys are strangers and if they are long distance there is a lot they can hide. 
•Meet their family and friends and watch how they interact. If things feel off, trust your gut instinct.

Met my boyfriend on zwinky in 2014 started dating July 2015 talked on facetime, social media, texting, calls etc until we met two years later October 2017 now we’ve been living together since May. I flew from Kentucky to Texas just to meet in person. Long distance relationships are definitely worth it if both people are giving 110%. You have to both give effort, make sacrifices, and be loyal/ trustworthy.
