Meeting Grandma Before She Dies?

My 5 year old stepdaughter has never met her great grandma. We are being presented the opportunity to introduce her to her but she is very sick and will probably die soon. We don’t know if we should let it happen or keep her from getting to know someone right before they die. My stepdaughter has never known anyone that has died. I’m just a little lost on what to do here.

I think it’s healthy to meet someone of that age. It’s her family she should see her. Ancestry is important.

Let her meet her. She shouldn’t be sheltered from it, it’s a part of life. Plus think of how happy it would make your great grandmother to be able to meet your daughter

I don't even understand how this debatable. I'd absolutely introduce them. My daughter just met her great-great grandmother for the first (and possibly only) time over the summer and I am so incredibly fortunate to have had those moments. My great grandmother had been asking about her for over a year at that point (we lived 3,000 miles from her at the time) and there was no way I could allow her to pass away without meeting my daughter. I didn't even think twice about it. We visited and I wouldn't trade it for the world. And I agree with others in that death is just a part of life. Your stepdaughter is 5. Surely she knows people die? There's no need to shelter her from life. That should be an open and honest conversation with her.

I would say, let her get the chance to meet her. I know I wish my daughter could of meet her grandma, but she passed away in 2005 when my husband was 13. So I would say let her enjoy what little time she can with her.

I met my aunt when she was on her death bed. My parents explained to me what was happening. Even though I was very young I understood. I feel like that was a very very important thing for me to go through and I am glad I did. I was able to see death from a less attached non emotional position because I didn’t know this woman. It gave me a lot of new information for my brain to process and absorb without being clouded by fear or heartbreak. 
I remember when my dog died a year before I was devastated. I couldn’t properly process the concept of death because I was in so much pain.
