Why they say never wake a sleeping baby

Hey mumma's just wandering What is the reason behind the saying "never wake a sleeping baby"? If my lil one 2 1/2 months has slept over 5 hours I'll wake him for a feed but my mil says not to ?

They say never wake a sleeping baby mainly because they need a lot of sleep, and they don’t necessarily need to follow a schedule that we want to implement for them. 
If baby is gaining weight and having lots of wet nappies, you don’t have to wake them for feeds overnight. 
I wake my son from his naps during the day though if he’s sleeping too long, as we’ve got a really good routine in place now and he sleeps 11 hours overnight. He’s 3.5 months

Don’t wake him. He will wake up when he wants to eat.  Wake a sleeping baby once j but you never do it again.  It is hell and the hardest thing it the world to calm a baby that was woken up when they are not ready To be up.

My mother said the same wen my daughter was younger. My guess is it’s more peaceful for the mother to let them keep sleeping so let them sleep as long as they want. I never went by that rule

I don’t wake my son up. He is gaining weight steadily and has plenty of wet diapers. He wakes when he is hungry or not tired anymore. He feeds on demand.

Never wake a sleeping baby is my #2 rule of parenting. If they need it, they'll sleep. If you wake them up, you throw off their cycle and their needs aren't being met. They'll wake when they're hungry or uncomfortable.

I never woke at night. Baby will wake if they are hungry. My girl now sleeps 12 hours straight at night no problem 🤗

The nurses told me to wake my son as well. I did it once, and never again. 
He screamed bloody murder and in the end didn't nurse at all lol that was my second babe but first time nursing and I wanted to be successful.....waking him up was not a part of that! Lol

If LO doesn’t have a weight issue then you don’t want to wake them. They need to sleep a lot so they can grow. Waking a sleeping baby can cause LO to be super cranky and cry for hours

It will become a habit to eat at that time so he won’t want to sleep through the night. I’d let him wake up on his own when he’s hungry. Trust me, when he goes through a sleep regression and wants to wake up every 1-2 hours, you will miss the days where he slept for 5+ hours.
