Breastfeeding acts as birth control?

Question

Was just informed that breastfeeding can act as a form of birth to control (although it's still recommended to use other forms of BC like condoms).

I also read it says breastfeeding only works as birth control if you breastfeed exclusively. Why does it only work if the baby solely drinks breast milk?

Just curious as to the science behind the idea that exclusive breastfeeding  acts as BC

I think by exclusively breastfeeding it releases the right hormones, but you never know when the hormone stops until you get a first period again after birth. This means that you could fall unprotected, and your body is most fertile after giving birth, so you could easily fall pregnant in this time if relying on breastfeeding ss the only form of contraception.

Don't believe everything you read. You can MOST DEFINATELY get pregnant while breast feeding

Yep im pretty sure you can! Im ebf baby girl is 6 weeks old and i just got my period back, unlucky! Could have got pregnant if id had sex 14 days ago scary thought!

My sister in le thought she "dried up" around 5 1/2-6 months after her daughter was born...come to find out it was because she was pregnant again...so you can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding!

Be careful.. My best friend got pregnant while breastfeeding. It's an old wives tale!
