Can someone explain?

Question

So my cervix is 60% thinned, but not soft. How is this so? Can someone explain what that actually means? I guess I’m confused about the difference.

Answer

You’re funneling (effacement) but your cervix is still thick/strong (holding up with dilation). 
When your cervix becomes soft, it becomes easier to dilate. Funneling is opening up to drop baby down. 
I’m at 3cm dilated, but my cervix is still thick. It has to soften to help with further dilation.
